Emerged in 2020 from an initiative by German companies with the aim of sustainably strengthening the physical and digital infrastructure in Africa together with local contributors.
About the African German Health Association e.V. (AGHA)
The African German Health Association e.V. (AGHA) was founded in 2020 as an initiative of German companies with the goal of sustainably strengthening both the digital and physical health infrastructure in Africa — in close collaboration with local stakeholders. All projects follow a multi-stakeholder approach to ensure long-term impact and local ownership.
AGHA draws on the extensive experience and expertise of its partners in Germany and Africa. This is reflected in the association’s core areas of activity:
Physical infrastructure
Digital infrastructure
Skilled healthcare personnel
Medical engineering
Pharmaceutical sector
AGHA Academy
As part of this innovative model, AGHA has launched the AGHA Academy, with the vision of providing a digital platform that meaningfully and sustainably complements the association’s in-person training programs. Participants in physical training courses receive free access to the digital course content, enabling continued learning and long-term knowledge transfer.
Mission
It is the African German Health association’s mission to sustainably improve the physical and digital infrastructure of the health sectors in Africa. After all, strong, efficient health care is the basis for realising the human right to the “highest attainable standard of physical and mental health”, as formulated by the United Nations in the Social Covenant as early as 1966. Health is a global development goal – everyone should have access to adequate, comprehensive and affordable health care for all population groups.
In most developing and emerging countries, however, the majority of people still do not have sufficient access to adequate health care. On 25 September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Sustainability Development Goals, which are to be achieved by 2030.
